For the production of our objects, we look for production partners who are located nearby as much as possible. For example, we work with partners in our location (Delft, NL), for the transparent cars and the handmade large objects by Floris Hovers. Lex Pott's cars are made in Poland at a furniture manufacturer.
Unfortunately, this is not possible for all products. For instance, many factories for wooden toys have disappeared from Europe. For Floris Hovers' cars, for example, it is necessary that the paint finish is of outstanding quality. Manufacturers who can achieve this paint quality we have not (so far) been able to find nearby. The Floris Hovers nativity scene and wooden cars are therefore made in Vietnam. This factory delivers the top quality we expect from our products.
The (parts of the) furniture are largely made in the Netherlands and the Czech Republic. Klaas Kuiken's vases are made in Arnhem by the designer himself.
Packaging is produced in the Netherlands and Hungary, or by the producer from whom we buy the product.
Are all products safe?
All IKONIC products comply with European product safety requirements. Some of the products have also been tested against the European safety requirements applicable to children's toys. This is indicated on the product page.
Sustainability
Are IKONIC products sustainable or sustainably produced?
What is not thrown away does not have to be recycled
At IKONIC, we are committed to sustainability. As a small producer with small production runs, it is not always easy to make a big impact. However, we believe we do make a big impact by ensuring that the objects are both sturdy and durable, but above all of very high aesthetic quality.
Because: what doesn't get thrown away, doesn't need to be recycled either!
At IKONIC, we strive for a relationship between owner and product that we can best describe as: ‘forever yours......’ Good design is timeless and retains its value. An Eames chair is rarely thrown away. This is true sustainability, a rarity in a time of ‘planned obsolescence’, cheap, super-fast fast fashion and the rise of platforms with cheap products from Asia.
For transport to our warehouse, we choose transport with the lowest CO2 emissions. The wooden products (and in most cases also the packaging) are produced under the FSC hallmark. For shipping to shops and consumers, old packaging and filling materials are reused (see sticker on box). You may sometimes find a lot of plastic bags as filling material in the box, these come from a local company that would otherwise dispose of this. You may also find shredded cardboard as filling material in the box, these are old packaging boxes that we reuse for this. In turn, we hope you will dispose of the materials properly.
