The design classics of tomorrow
At IKONIC, we believe in sustainable design: no rapidly changing collections, but quality designs that have what it takes to become true design classics. That is why you will still see our designs in the collection two or three years from now. A really good design should last for years and remain relevant. We do not rule out the possibility that these classics will also prove to be a worthwhile investment; as with modern art, this is a special feature of timeless and high-quality design.
Tips for decorating your living room
These days, it seems to be the norm that interiors have to constantly follow the latest trends, but replacing furniture and accessories is not always the most sustainable choice. So don't immediately throw your entire interior in the trash, but see which pieces suit you, and your new interior plan!
In many interiors you come across in interior design magazines and on social media, you see design classics by well-known designers around which an interior is styled. If you too have a special piece (whether or not a classic of value) with which you have a special connection, take this piece of furniture as a starting point for your interior.
Give each function a place
You want your living room to be a nice place to be, but think about the different functions it has. Do you give the television a prominent place, where do the children play, do you also work in the living room? And where do you store all your things?
So think about what you and your housemates think is important, and start making a layout where each important function has a place in your living room. This will also help you determine whether the current furniture is still adequate, or if you need to look for something else.
Decorating the living room
Now think about what will be the most optimal layout for your living room. For now, use the furniture you have at your disposal as a starting point, and arrange your living room. This can be done on paper, but it works best if you move the furniture around the room. This way you can see whether there is enough walking space, whether there is still enough light coming in and whether the room can actually be used practically.
If necessary, adjust your plan the moment it becomes too crowded or too full. A nice interior has enough breathing space; a somewhat emptier space gives peace. Temporarily remove all accessories (side tables, vases, picture frames, candles, etc) and decide later what you want to return.
Style, colour, materials
In the meantime, you have probably figured out which style appeals most to you (you). Using interior design magazines, Pinterest and Instagram, you can create a moodboard for the colours and materials of the room itself (e.g. the walls and floor) and for the style and colours of the furniture and accessories. Hopefully you've chosen a style that your existing furniture fits into! If you really want to get it right, go to a good furniture shop nearby, they usually have specialists on staff who can advise you.
